Tullochan Annual Awards & 20th Birthday Celebration

On Thursday 12th May Tullochan held their annual awards night, at the Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre, to celebrate the achievements of the young people who have been supported over the last year.

Hosted by Ian Miller, the event was full to capacity with over 300 friends, family, funders and MSP’s in attendance to show their support. This was a wonderful showcase of all the hard work and endeavour shown by our young people in 2015 and 2016. Throughout the night young people from S1 to S5 from across all five secondary schools in West Dunbartonshire took to the stage to speak about their Tullochan experience and success. For many this was their first time speaking in front of an audience and about their own achievements, not that it showed as all displayed courage and assurance to captivate the room full of proud family and friends.

In addition to the current young people a number of young men who engaged with Tullochan in their youth took to the stage. Damien Scott, Cieran McIntyre and Tommy Harkin spoke warmly to those in attendance about the positive impact Tullochan had on their lives and how it helped on their journey to being successful in the present day. Danny McGinley, who has a son Daniel engaged with Tullochan, also addressed the audience to give an insight into the important impact Tullochan has had from a parent’s perspective.

Alongside the guest speakers, a number of videos were played on the cinema screen to celebrate 20 years of Tullochan as 2016 is the milestone year. This provided those in attendance with an opportunity to watch the development of Tullochan over the past two decades and for many the chance to relive happy memories.

The ceremony concluded with all young people being presented on stage with their certificates, and a smaller group also receiving a John Muir Award from Lucy Sparks. A reception was held post ceremony to allow all guests the opportunity to meet with staff and other friends and family to continue the celebration.

Tullochan would like to thank everyone who attended and helped make the awards night a success in particular everyone at the Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre. Well done to all our young people on their awards and achievements this year and for making the night such a big success. Look out for more 20th birthday celebrations throughout the year.

An additional thank you to Jackie Baillie MSP who raised a motion in the Scottish Parliament on 16th May congratulating Tullochan for 20 years of youth development services across the West Dunbartonshire.
